Beautiful day for the comp, a bit gusty. I didn’t fly, and may have missed a good day. It was fun watching the Enzo/Zeno wings.
When I get back I’m going to scope out the new Concord Hills Regional Park … former Concord Naval Weapons Station. Looks good for hike & fly.
I’ve enjoyed following the Xalps this year. With that small pack size these pilots are flying high performance wings deep and far. https://www.redbullxalps.com/
1.5hrs – I went to Burnt to Upper Rabies then crossed to OFF-RG and then dug out low to get to Longsword. I had a 40% assymetric at 5.2K’ above Burnt ridge. That is a convergence area and can be bumpy. The Iota2 handled it well, I had to brake an assymetric surge but the collapse popped out fine.
The time window for the clinic is working out well. I launch around 11am and like that it is before the stronger afternoon winds. The top comp pilots are talented, I think they can push 15mph faster than my wing, and have less sink.
1.5hr XC south down Applegate valley, was trying for Applegate Lake but ended up short. When I landed one neighbor drove out to give me a bottle of water, and the other offered me a ride to the main road, and we talked about his vineyard (Cowhorn label, need to buy a bottle!). 2 cars stopped on this small road and offered rides. Very friendly here.
Glass off flight, boaty air at 730pm. Beautiful views of three valleys.
